Critical Link International spearheaded a movement that has evolved into a robust field of study, research, and professional practice in community interpreting.

Critical Link 8 Gathers Momentum

Only 2 months to go until CLI touches down in Scotland

Edinburgh has a growing buzz spreading from the Centre for Translation & Interpreting Studies in Scotland, in LINCS, at Heriot-Watt University, as Critical Link 8 grows larger on the horizon and takes shape.

With CL8 just 2 months away, preparations are gathering momentum.  With over 280 abstracts received from 30 different countries and 6 sub-continents, we are preparing a program that is wide in scope and reflective of the international interests and will be available on our website shortly. A scholarship application form for PhD students and early career researchers is also available.

Registration and conference activities

The registration and accommodation booking systems are now live and the Early Bird registration period runs until 29 April. Please visit our website for practical information on the location, venue and affordable on-campus rooms available for delegates: http://ctiss.hw.ac.uk/conferences/critical-link-8.html

Various exciting conference activities are also being planned. An example of this is The Gala Dinner at The Hub, a few steps away from Edinburgh Castle, on Castlehill. A Ceilidh,Scottish country dancing led by a live ceilidh band, will follow dinner.  A Caller will guide delegates through the dances and for people who do not want to dance, watching the dancing can be as much fun as joining in!

Pre-conference (27-28 June) and post-conference events are also being planned and the actual conference programme (29 June – 1 July) will be packed and promises to be very productive. The aim is that the voices of all stakeholders should be heard. Critical Link International will host a panel of experts from different parts of the globe to present, compare, and perhaps challenge, current working conditions. Delegates will also have the opportunity to attend the CLI AGM during the conference.

There will be regular updates to information on the Critical Link 8 website (so keep checking back) and Like the Critical Link 8 on Facebook for local information and information specific to CL8.
